I recently joined Aziz’s lab as a Research Technician. I did my Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology at University of Pisa, Italy. During my thesis work I used planarians as a model system to investigate stem cells behaviour in response to natural alkaloids. Planarians are really fascinating animals, because of their extraordinary regenerative capacity conferred by stem cells.
During this study I developed strong interest in the field of stem cell biology and regeneration and decided to carry on in this direction in order to understand mechanisms/signals that control regeneration and also balance between regeneration and ageing process in flatworms.
My current interest in the Lab is investigating regeneration using the crustacean Parhyale hawaiensis as an emerging system for studies for animal development, regeneration and immunity. I am very excited about this work.
