It was a delight to have become part of the research team at Aboobaker lab. The team was particularly welcoming and patient in explaining the lab’s outstanding work.

It was great to be able to participate in a wide variety of projects as well as continue to develop my knowledge of this field beyond GCSE level. It was especially interesting to be able to understand the function of advanced technology, such as PCR and apply the information I already knew to extend my knowledge of molecular biology.

Primarily, I worked on producing stock images of the central nervous system of a selection of planaria for the lab website. It was very encouraging to see that the experiment worked the first time and a variety of images have been produced (see Figure).

I believe that the experience I have gained will prove very useful in my future career. I would like to thank the whole team for the amazing few weeks I spent at this lab and their help and support during my time here.
