Planarian is an ideal model organism for stem cell research; however, with the development of gene-editing technology, the disadvantage of using planarian as a model animal has shown: we are uncapable of editing the genome of planarian. Actually, we can’t even deliver the molecules into planarian cells easily and keep them functional (e.g. Crispr-Cas9 system). Consequently, the question that I’m most interested in is “Can we make transgenic or genome-edited planarians?”, and my aim is to establish the first transgenic worm in the world.

Secondly, I’m also curious about the transcriptional network of neoblasts, which might help us understand the regulation of their pluripotency.
